Road to the Highlands - One of my favourite pictures is of this old building (possibly an old croft) at the side of the A832 road driving from the Braemore Junction towards Dundonnell and Camusnagaul. The mountain range An Teallach beckons you!
Grass roofed uninhabited croft in the Highlands
This old croft with its grass (turf) roof is a very traditional building. You do not need to worry, we have luxurious holiday accommodation and self catering cottages to rent in Scotland, you will not end up in one of these delightful old buildings - unless you buy one.
Old Croft near Gairloch
The pictures shown on this page are from crofts, old cottages and an animal barn on the road to North Erradale, Peterburn, Melvaig and Rue Reidh Lighthouse. In this area of Wester Ross these old building are becoming more difficult to find as they are often being converted into holiday cottages.
Throughout Scotland and especially the Highlands and Islands you will still see old buildings many hundreds of years old and of these buildings are still being used for keeping cows or other animals. The old croft barn shown above is probably not being used except for the odd sheep or two who shelter out of the bad weather.
